FARGO -- As a light mist fell from the sky on Wednesday, Fargo-Moorhead metro residents were either celebrating or cursing the lack of snowfall this winter as a longstanding record was broken.
Fargo has officially broken the record of no snowfalls of 1 inch or greater this winter during a single day (midnight to midnight).
In most of the metro area, brown grass is the norm, rather than mounds of snow.
The old record for latest 1 inch or greater snowfall was Jan. 27 set during the 1943-44 winter.

There have been a few days this winter when amounts totaled to 0.8 of an inch or 0.9 of an inch, but no official 1 inch or greater snowfall has been recorded.
In Fargo, there has only been 7.5 inches of snow through Jan. 29, but even though winter isn't over yet there were no forecasts for the next week for any major snowfall in the metro area.
