FARGO - A Fargo mother was charged with drunken driving after a cab driver saw her 11-year-old son get into a car carrying a bottle of rum, according to police.

Lt. Joel Vettel said the cabbie called police Sunday night after spotting the boy with a bottle of Captain Morgan rum. The boy was in the car with his 5-year-old sibling, his mother, Brittney Kenyon, and a man, Vettel said.

Police found the car near South University Drive and Interstate 94 and saw it swerving. As an officer followed the car, Kenyon pulled over on her own, and a man in the passenger seat got out to talk with police, Vettel said.

Kenyon, 28, failed sobriety tests and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle. A family member came to retrieve the children, Vettel said.

Kenyon later posted an $800 bond to be released from the Cass County Jail.
