FARGO, N.D. -- The mayor of North Dakota's largest city says he plays to run again in 2014, but it might be in different capacity.

Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker tells The Forum newspaper that he hasn't decided whether to seek a third term as the city leader or pursue a seat on the city commission.

Walaker says giving up the mayor's post would allow him to have more time for himself and his family, but says he wants to remain in city government until construction begins on a $1.8 billion Red River diversion project.

Fargo Deputy Mayor Tim Mahoney says he would run for mayor if Walaker opts for a commission bid.
