A 33-year-old Fargo man is accused of beating and raping a woman he knows before binding her legs and hands and threatening her with a knife, according to Cass County court records.

The woman told police he traced her face with the tip of the blade as she was bound to a toddler bed, the court records allege.

In an initial appearance on the charges Wednesday, bail for Bartholomew Francis Schumacher was set at $100,000. He's being held at the Cass County Jail.

Schumacher is charged in Cass County District Court with two counts of terrorizing and one count each of felonious restraint and gross sexual imposition. The latter charge is a Class AA felony carrying a minimum 20-year prison term upon conviction.

According to Fargo police reports filed with charges:

Schumacher punched the alleged victim in the head and tried to sexually assault her while in his garage before forcing her inside the home and raping her in the basement.

Afterward, he allegedly bound her hands and legs with electrical tape before taping her to a toddler bed.

"She said while he was tying her up he was also kissing her and she thought it was a sick move and was very upset with the gesture," the police report states.

The alleged victim also told officers Schumacher traced her face with the tip of a knife, mimed shaving her face with the knife and also made a motion like he was going to slit her throat.

At one point, he gave her a Tupperware container to urinate in, the woman told police officers. Eventually, the woman was able to wrest free of the bindings and escape to a neighboring home. Police reports say the incident started just before 8 a.m., about two hours before the alleged victim called police.

Charges connected to the Nov. 1 incident were filed on Nov. 12, and an arrest warrant was issued Nov. 16. Schumacher was arrested on the warrant in Washington and arrived at the jail Tuesday at 6:38 p.m., said Capt. Rick Majerus of the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

A message left at the jail for Schumacher wasn't returned Wednesday.
