Grand Forks church to host missionary to Liberia

Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1710 Cherry St., Grand Forks, will host speaker Joe Boway at regular services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday. A potluck dinner will follow the service at 11 a.m.

Boway works as a missionary. Through the Liberian Children’s Ministry, he is able to reach out to more than 3,400 children in Liberia and provide a quality education and share the love of God.

Grand Forks church to host music events

United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, will host its annual “Beat the Winter Blues Open House” starting at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The event starts with music by The WoodPicks, a five-member group out of Thief River Falls. Worship starts at 10:15 a.m., with the WoodPicks staying as musical guests. A lunch of BBQ, baked beans and more will follow.

The church will also host the Concordia Choir at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15

The 79-voice a cappella choir will perform several spirituals and hymns as well as some dramatic new arrangements with Excelsior. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased in advance at the church or online at  www.concordiatickets.com  as well as at the door.

Thief River Falls church to host conference, choir

Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2075 Highway 59 S.E., Thief River Falls, is hosting its annual Mission Conference highlighting local and international needs Sunday through Wednesday.

Roxanne Zerwas, director of the LifeCare Pregnancy Center in Thief River Falls, will speak about “Concern for the Unborn” on Sunday; Rev. Connely Dyrud, a retired missionary who directed a children’s home in Brazil, will speak about “Concern for Children” Monday; Sandi Bentley, director of the local Violence Intervention Project, will speak on “Concern for the Abused” on Tuesday; and Rev. Tom Pollock of the Red Lake Indian Reservation will speak on “Concern for our Native Brothers and Sisters” on Wednesday. All events start at 7 p.m.

The church will also host the “Proclaim Choir” and the Men’s Quartet from the Association Free Lutheran Bible School for a concert of sacred classics and spirituals at 4 p.m. Feb. 16 at the church.

Grand Forks church to host parish mission

Holy Family Catholic Church, 1018 18th Ave. S., Grand Forks, will host a Parish Mission Feb. 23-26.

Bill Wegner, a Catholic Lay Evangelist with Good News International, will start the mission with the theme “Dare to Be Holy.” Monday night’s talk is about “The Challenge of Jesus,” while Tuesday features “Our Call to Reconcile” and Wednesday is “Questions of Jesus.” Each talk will start at 7 p.m., followed by refreshments and fellowship.
