A driver said his brakes went out, causing a two-vehicle accident Friday morning in Marshall County in northwestern Minnesota.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 1999 Chevrolet Astro Van driven by David Skunes, 49, Fosston, Minn., was northbound on state Highway 32 approaching 270th Street Northeast while a 1977 Chevrolet pickup driven by Kern Larson, 51, Newfolden, Minn., was westbound on 270th Street about 9:45 a.m. As Larson approached Highway 32, he told officers that his brakes failed and he went through the stop sign and tried to turn north and the vehicles collided.
Skunes was treated and released from MeritCare Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, a nursing employee at the hospital said Friday evening. A condition report on Larson was not available. Both vehicles sustained severe damage, the patrol said, and the accident remains under investigation.
