The former head of the Greenwood Home in Greenbush, Minn., was sentenced Monday to a month on electronic home monitoring for exploiting disabled adults.

Jane Halvorson, 32, of Bemidji, pleaded guilty to stealing more than $3,100 in 2008. She must pay back the money she stole and pay a fine of $585.

According to a criminal complaint, an employee at the Greenwood Home, which is run by Prairie Community Services, discovered discrepancies in the personal accounts of seven residents. Four of the residents lived at the Greenwood Home in Greenbush and three at the Crestwood Home in Roseau, Minn.

The residents range in age from 39 to 58 and have disabilities that prevent them from living on their own.

PCS investigated the discrepancies and found that Halvorson, who was in charge of the accounts, had turned in receipts, claiming that they were from purchases she made for residents. But the items on the receipts did not coincide with what the residents needed and what they had in their possession, the complaint says.
