A Red Pepper manager chased off an early-morning intruder who broke into the restaurant near downtown Grand Forks on Saturday.
Bill Moon, who lives above the taco shop at 1011 University Ave., said he heard noises in the restaurant about 6 a.m. When he went downstairs to investigate, he found a man inside the business. When Moon confronted him, the man fled.
"I kind of just heard some banging around downstairs," Moon said. "It kind of seemed like he was intoxicated."
The suspect entered the shop by forcing open the front door, according to Grand Forks Police Lt. Brett Johnson. Nothing was taken from the restaurant, and the only damage reported was to the door.
Johnson described the suspect as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and possibly Hispanic or Native American.

Moon said other than repairs to the front door, the business was not affected and was open for its usual hours Saturday. He said it was the first break-in he had dealt with in nine years as manager of the Red Pepper.
