The East Grand Forks School District reported a total of 1,728 students today, the first day of school in most of Minnesota.

Senior High school counted 577 students, while the middle school had 389 students. SouthPoint Elementary reported 375 students, while New Heights reported 387 students.

The district total is down eight students from last fall, but actually is two more students than what the district reported at the end of last school year.

For Sacred Heart Catholic School in East Grand Forks, the high school reported 149 students, up five from spring numbers, while the elementary school reported 211 students, an increase of one from last year.

Some Crookston students may not report to school until Friday, as there was a waterline break over the weekend. A decision on if high school classes in Crookston will resume Thursday will be made today. The school district's other buildings will start as scheduled Thursday.

The school also set aside the first two days of this school year for parent, student and teacher meetings.

In Thief River Falls, the district reported 2,084 students; with the high school at 647 students; 492 in the middle school and 900 in the elementary school. The elementary numbers are an increase as this is the first year for all-day, every-day kindergarten for the district.
