Education notes: UMC seeks business partnerships

The Center for Rural Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, is seeking regional entrepreneurs and small business owners who are interested in forming a partnership that would include consulting services by U of M students guided by qualified faculty at no cost.

CRES integrates the projects into courses offered on campus. They are designed to benefit small business owners and entrepreneurs while providing students with real-world business experiences.

Applications for the program are accepted at any time but priority is given to those received before deadlines. The 2013 fall semester deadline is Aug. 9 and the spring semester deadline is Nov. 30. Applicants will be notified of their participation in the program no later than Aug. 20 for the fall semester and Dec. 10 for the spring semester.

One of Park University's centers is at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Colleges of Distinction is a web-based guide for high school juniors and seniors seeking a school that is nationally recognized and recommended by professionals in the field of education.

• Three UND faculty members recently published a co-authored study, "Warning of potential disasters from outer space: A case study of coverage of asteroid threats," in the Journal of Applied Journalism and Media Studies. Kim Higgs of the Odegard School of Aerospace Science and journalism professors Richard Aregood and Richard Shafer wrote the article, which included interviews with asteroid researchers who provided their views on the way mass media cover asteroid threats to the earth.
