EDC names unmanned aircraft chief

The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corp. announced Monday that Terry Sando has been named its unmanned aerial systems sector senior manager.

The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corp. announced Monday that Terry Sando has been named its unmanned aerial systems sector senior manager.

Sando is a retired U.S. Air National Guard colonel with more than 30 years of aviation experience that includes manned and unmanned missions.

The Grand Forks region has the potential to become a hotbed of UAS development with the establishment of the Grand Sky business park on the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Grand Forks County is negotiating a lease with the U.S. Air Force for land at the base.

"I look forward to putting my experience to work for the Grand Forks Region EDC and to be part of putting the greater Grand Forks area on the map as the leading worldwide hub for UAS business, education, and training," Sando said in a press statement.
