WASHINGTON-The U.S. Economic Development Administration has awarded the Red River Regional Council a $61,000 grant, North Dakota's congressional delegation announced Wednesday.
The council includes Grand Forks, Nelson, Pembina and Walsh counties. The award "supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy for the region," the office of U.S. Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D. said in a release.
"These funds will play an important role in encouraging private capital investment in northeastern North Dakota, helping to create jobs and enabling the region to plan its economic development into the future," U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., said in a statement.
U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., also welcomed the news, calling it an effort to diversify the economy.
