East Grand Forks woman dies in rural Polk County accident

An East Grand Forks woman died Monday morning when the vehicle she was driving went into a ditch and smashed into a stone culvert about five miles east of Northland Community and Technical College.

An East Grand Forks woman died Monday morning when the vehicle she was driving went into a ditch and smashed into a stone culvert about five miles east of Northland Community and Technical College.

Emergency responders were unable to get into the car when they arrived on the scene five miles east of Minnesota Highway 220 on Polk County Road 19 just after 10:30 a.m.

The name of the victim is not being released pending the notification of the family.

The front half of the vehicle, believed to be a Ford Taurus, was completely destroyed in the crash.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office was joined on the scene by Altru Ambulance, East Grand Forks Fire and Rescue, the Minnesota State Patrol and Stuart's Towing, which had to pull the vehicle from the ditch so emergency personnel could get at it.
