EAST GRAND FORKS - Police in East Grand Forks are teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Agency for a prescription drug take-back event April 29.
The take-back, to be held at the East Grand Forks Police Department at 520 DeMers Ave., is an anonymous opportunity for residents on both sides of the river to clear out their medical cabinets and get rid of medicines that have potential for abuse or may make homes a target for theft, according to a press release.
This is the 13th event the DEA has held in conjunction with local law enforcement in the past seven years, East Grand Forks Police said.
A DEA take-back initiative last October saw Americans turn in 366 tons of prescription drugs at 5,200 drop-sites across the nation. The past 12 take-back initiatives have combined to collect 3,500 tons of pills nationwide.
The East Grand Forks Police Department has a drug drop box that is accessible 24 hours a day. Across the Red River, the Grand Forks Police Department also has an anonymous drug drop box. Altru Health Systems also has such boxes at multiple clinic locations.
