Grand Forks firefighters responded to an early morning fire Monday at 1208 University Ave. that resulted in an estimated $10,000 to $15,000 in damage.

No one was in the house when the fire broke out in an attached porch just after 7 a.m. Monday. Homeowner Jeff Rand returned home from work to watch the fire crew at work. They had pulled his two cats from the house.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Grand Forks Fire Department.

Donations are being accepted at all Bremer Bank locations to offset the cost of repairs from the significant smoke damage.
