DUI saturation: One arrested in Traill, 20 in Stark counties

One driving under the influence arrest, 12 traffic citations and eight written warnings were issued during a patrol saturation late Saturday night and early Sunday morning in Traill County.

One driving under the influence arrest, 12 traffic citations and eight written warnings were issued during a patrol saturation late Saturday night and early Sunday morning in Traill County.

However, a total of 20 DUI arrests were made over the weekend near Dickinson, in southwestern North Dakota.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that no arrests were made during a Traill County sobriety checkpoint between 8:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday, the citations and warnings were issued between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday.

A total of 31 vehicles passed through a sobriety checkpoint, located at the intersection of N.D. Highways 18 and 200, about 10 miles south of Hatton, N.D..

Other sobriety checkpoints were conducted in Walsh and Stark counties.

In Walsh County, the Highway Patrol reported that while 11 drivers had been consuming alcohol and received additional evaluation for possible impairment, no DUI arrests were made.

A total of 205 vehicles passed through the sobriety checkpoint, located one-half mile west of Grafton, N.D., along N.D. Highway 17, between 9 and 11 p.m. Friday.

The Highway Patrol was assisted by the Walsh County Sheriff's Department and Grafton Police Department in conducting the sobriety checkpoint and alcohol enforcement saturation.

Wild out west

Police were busier in the Dickinson area Saturday night, with a total of 20 DUI citations issued.

Five drivers were arrested on DUI charges, one for minor in possession and one for driving under suspension at a sobriety checkpoint along N.D. Highway 22 in south Dickinson between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, saturation patrols between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday by the Highway Patrol, Stark County Sheriff's Department and Dickinson Police Department resulted in 15 DUI arrests, six for driving while licenses were suspended, one for minor in possession, one for no liability insurance, one for failure to transfer title, two for possession of marijuana and three for possession of drug paraphernalia.

North Dakota has recorded a total of 57 traffic fatalities this year in 52 crashes, with 28 alcohol-related fatalities, according to the Highway Patrol.
