Residents and employees of the Northlands Rescue Mission in Grand Forks were evacuated Thursday morning after a clothes dryer caught fire in a laundry room.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and brought the dryer into an alley next to the mission, 420 Division Ave.
Smoke spread through the five floors of the building, but residents and employees were able to return after the structure was ventilated, senior firefighter Brandon Boespflug said.
Only the dryer and the clothes inside were damaged, he said.
"We'd want to remind people, don't leave their dryers unattended and don't overload them," Boespflug said.
