A defendant in a case linked to the recent drug overdose deaths of two Grand Forks youths will remain behind bars pending trial, a federal court in Fargo ruled Friday.

A defendant in a case linked to the recent drug overdose deaths of two Grand Forks youths will remain behind bars pending trial, a federal court in Fargo ruled Friday.

Brandon Corde Hubbard, 40, of Portland, Ore., is one of at least five people charged in connection to the drug overdose deaths of 18-year-old Bailey Henke and 19-year-old Evan Poitra.

Court papers allege Hubbard was involved in a "large scale" drug distribution conspiracy that spanned multiple countries and stretched across the U.S.

During questioning, Hubbard allegedly admitted to buying 750 grams of fentanyl citrate worth about $1.5 million from sources in Canada and China last November and to selling more than 400 grams of the drug over the Internet, according to a criminal complaint signed by Homeland Security Investigation Agent Guy Gino.

Agents also found about 100 grams of fentanyl citrate, scales, packaging materials and mailing envelopes during a January search of his residence in Portland, the complaint says.

Hubbard pleaded not guilty to three federal charges at his arraignment in U.S. District Court in North Dakota late last month.

He is charged with conspiring to distribute controlled substances resulting in serious bodily injury and death, distributing controlled substances resulting in death, and money laundering.
