MINNEAPOLIS -- Authorities were looking for the body of a man believed to have drowned in the Mississippi River on Tuesday morning in downtown Minneapolis.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses shortly after 10:30 a.m. reported seeing a man in the river just north of the Hennepin Avenue Bridge.
First responders tried to throw the man a rope with an attached flotation device, but the rescue attempts were not successful. He was last seen going under the water.
The sheriff’s Water Patrol deployed boats to search the flood-swollen river. The Minneapolis police and fire departments and a State Patrol helicopter also responded to the scene.
