MITCHELL, S.D. - The driver in a crash that killed a 14-year old boy had a blood alcohol content of 0.148 percent at the time of the incident, according to court documents.

Karla Martinez, 22, will next appear in court July 9 after being charged with third-offense driving under the influence, vehicular homicide, furnishing alcohol to a person under 18, driving with a suspended license, possessing an open container of alcohol and failure to use a seat belt. Vehicular homicide and third-offenses DUI are felonies.

The boy, Lenard Boyer, of Mitchell, died at a Sioux Falls hospital after the crash. None of the vehicle's four occupants were wearing seat belts, but Boyer was the only one ejected from the vehicle. He was initially transported to Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell for head trauma, then was flown to Avera McKennan.

In the June 25 crash,  Martinez lost control of her 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a rural roadway near Mitchell and rolled several times in a ditch.

Martinez was brought to Davison County Jail and bail was set at $20,000 in cash.
