A driver was hospitalized after an all-terrain vehicle struck an Amtrak train near Rugby, N.D., about 2 p.m. Thursday.
The UTV was heading south on a gravel road when it collided with the train about one mile east of Rugby, causing minimal damage to the train but disabling the UTV, according to a Pierce County Sheriff’s Department news release.
The male driver of the UTV was transported by Rugby Ambulance service to the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby for unknown injuries, according to the release. He was later transferred to Trinity Hospital.
No one on the Amtrak train was injured. The incident is still under investigation, according to the release.

Rugby Police Department, North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, North Dakota Highway Patrol and Rugby Fire/Rescue also responded to the scene.
The UTV driver was not identified in the press release. No other information was available Friday.
