Demolition is expected to begin this week on two Grand Forks School District properties on North Fifth Street to make way for parking lots for nearby Central High School, according to Business Manager Bill Hutchison.

One of the buildings at No. 121 used to house the YWCA, and the other at No. 211 housed a business.

A plan outlining parking options and costs, including a surface lot and two-level ramps, will be brought to the Grand Forks School Board at its next meeting, Hutchison said.

The granite slab, with the letters, YWCA, has been removed from above the main entrance and will be given to the local Y for possible use in its remodeling plans. Also recovered from that building's cornerstone was a time capsule that contained pictures and newspapers from 1951.

In other news, the terms of four school board members are up for election June 12: Vicki Ericson, Linda Jensen, Eric Lunn and Roger Pohlman.
