DEVILS LAKE-Improvements on U.S. Highway 2 east of Devils Lake will come next year, and North Dakota highway officials are asking for public input.
The state Department of Transportation announced Tuesday it is seeking feedback from community members on the $850,000 project that will install left turn lanes along the corridor starting about 2 miles east of city limits.
The project, which came after Ramsey County leaders pushed the DOT to make improvements to the highway out of fear crashes could cause injury or death, is set to begin this construction season. Left turn lanes would be installed starting 2 miles east of Devils Lake, extending three more miles, in both westbound and eastbound lanes.
There are left turn lanes beginning at city limits extending east, but they end after 2 miles, along with a frontage road.
LED-lighted signs warning of heavy traffic turning off and on the highway were slated to be installed along the highway.
