DICKINSON, N.D. -- Dickinson officials are considering a part-time city planner to keep pace with building permits.

City administrator Shawn Kessel said the demand comes from growth from an oil boom in western North Dakota.

He said about 1,100 residential lots will likely be developed, and the increase in permits is keeping city planner Ed Courton busy.

Kessel said the city's population is expected to grow from about 20,000 now to about 24,000 by 2014.
