A Devils Lake High School student was recognized by Gov. Jack Dalrymple during his State of the State address Tuesday.

Dalrymple mentioned Melanie Bailey for carrying a competing runner who was injured during a race in October and said she demonstrated the "true spirit of North Dakota." The act gained national recognition, and Bailey appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show along with the other runner, Fargo South student Danielle LaNoue.

Bailey, who was in attendance Tuesday, received a standing ovation from lawmakers.
