AMIDON, N.D. -- Anyone who wants to take a sentimental tour of the old Slope County Courthouse or do business there while it’s still standing has only a few more days to get it done.

Demolition of the old courthouse - the last wood structure courthouse remaining in North Dakota - is scheduled to start on Oct. 20. After it’s removed, the area will be graded for a concrete parking area.

Auditor Lorrie Buzalsky said the county commissioners are planning to sell unusable and unwanted items from the old courthouse at auction, though when that will be or what will be sold has not yet been decided.

County employees are already packing up for the big move from the old building to the new and Buzalsky said transfer is planned to take place over the weekend of Oct. 11 and 12.

The new building is in what was the front yard of the existing courthouse.

Bulzalsky said contractors are still finishing up some details with flooring, ceiling installation and electrical in the new one-level building.
