Daniel J. Lessard, 84, of Grafton, North Dakota, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton.

Dan was born November 19, 1923 at Oakwood, North Dakota the son of George and Rachel (Pilon) Lessard. He attended grade and high school at St. Aloysius Academy in Oakwood. Dan served in the United States Navy for 28 Months in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

After the war, he began his banking career at the Walsh County State Bank in Grafton, working in various Departments including the Insurance Department. He retired from Bremer Bank in 1986 after 40 years. He was President of the bank for 19 years.

On June 8, 1948 he was united in marriage to Alice Sevigny at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton. Dan was active in various veterans, fraternal civic and church organizations. He served as President of the North Dakota Bankers Association in 1972. He attended many banking schools and seminars and graduated from the Graduate School of Banking, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1962.

Dan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice; children, Barbara (Greg Hauschild of Moorhead, Minnesota, Thomas (Penny) of West Fargo, North Dakota, Lon (Sandra) of Grafton, North Dakota, Mary Beth (Tom) Arnzen of Baxter, Minnesota, Julie (Rod) Flaten of Mayville, North Dakota, David (Jane) of West Fargo, North Dakota and Mark (Sharon) of Larned, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sister, Agnes Kamrowski of Park Rapids, Minnesota; brother, Roman (Joyce) of Grafton, North Dakota and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2008 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton with burial in St. John's Cemetery in Grafton.

Friends may call at the Church on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service and one hour prior to services in the church.
