A Crookston woman has pleaded not guilty to a heroin charge after police said they found drugs in her bra.
Cynthia Esquivel, 44, waived her preliminary hearing Wednesday in Grand Forks District Court, where she appeared on a charge of possessing heroin with intent to deliver or manufacture, a Class A felony. Her next court appearance is Oct. 20.
The charge comes after the Grand Forks Narcotics and Pine-to-Prairie Drug task forces learned Esquivel was on probation out of Polk County and that she was in possession of "a large amount" of heroin, according to a criminal complaint. On July 7, investigators went to a Grand Forks Inn room at which Esquivel was staying. They were told multiple individuals were seen going in and out of the room.
When investigators searched Esquivel, they found what was believed to be black tar heroin in her bra, according to court documents. She also admitted the substance in the baggie was heroin and that she had sold some to various individuals, investigators said in the complaint.
A Class A felony carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
