CROOKSTON -- A Crookston man has been charged in connection with a motorcycle crash that claimed the life of his wife in September.

Corey Lee Reitmeier, 44, will make his first court appearance Feb. 11 in Polk County District Court on a felony charge of criminal vehicular homicide, according to court records. His wife, Wendy Reitmeier, 43, died in the crash. She was a passenger on a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle Corey Reitmeier was operating when it struck a deer on Polk County Road 57 near Gentilly, Minn. The crash occurred at about 8:50 p.m. Sept. 26.

Both were thrown from the cycle and neither was wearing a helmet, according to a report from Minnesota State Patrol. Wendy Reitmeier was pronounced dead at the scene, while Corey Reitmeier was taken to Riverview Health in Crookston for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Court documents list Corey Reitmeier’s blood alcohol level was at 0.18 near the time of the crash.

Corey Reitmeier pleaded guilty on May 26, 2004, in Polk County District Court to a fourth-degree driving while intoxicated charge. He also has a careless driving, a hit and run property damage and several speeding tickets convictions on his record.
