A Grand Forks man was sentenced in federal court to 16 years in prison on a charge of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for North Dakota.

Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Ralph Erickson sentenced Corey Lorent Molsbarger to 192 months in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release.

Molsbarger was one of five people arrested in the Ramada Inn hotel in Grand Forks in January 2006 after Grand Forks police responded to a report of suspicious behavior. Hotel staff called police after complaints of noise and excessive traffic in and out of one room. When police checked the room, they discovered about a half-pound of meth - with an estimated street value of $10,000 to $20,000 - and meth-related paraphernalia.

Police arrested Molsbarger, Gregory Wade Nordrum, 37; Jason Kenneth Mikula, 29; Ashley Jean Bigalke, 22; and Roseann Marie Moen, 21.

All, excluding Nordrum, had previous drug-related arrests, according to police.

Molsbarger was wanted on several outstanding state court warrants at the time.

A federal jury convicted Molsbarger in September. Bigalke and Mikula both were called as witnesses, according to court documents.

Bigalke pleaded guilty to possession of meth in 2006 in Grand Forks District Court. She was sentenced to four years in prison with 2½ years suspended. Charges of possession of meth with the intent to deliver and possession of meth paraphernalia were dismissed against Mikula, Moen and Nordrum in 2006 in Grand Forks District Court.

In unrelated incidents, Nordrum was charged in a smash-and-grab burglary of the Computer Run/Radio Shack store in Thief River Falls and an active warrant for his arrest on the charge of burglary was issued in Grand Forks this year.
