A new book on politics by a Washington insider is making the rounds, and the jacket carries endorsing blurbs from Barack Obama and former Vice President Walter Mondale as well as former Republican Sens. Bob Dole and Trent Lott.

The author's name is Conrad.

No, not Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D.

The author of "What You Should Know About Politics ... But Don't: A Nonpartisan Guide to the Issues" is Jessamyn Conrad, the senator's daughter.

A recent book-signing party on Capitol Hill hosted by her father drew more than 20 senators of both parties, Albert Eisele reported Friday at MinnPost.com.

Jessamyn Conrad, 30, studied social anthropology and Islamic art history at Harvard and earned a master's degree in historical studies from Cambridge University.

Her 312-page book is sharply critical of both major political parties and the political system generally. She wrote it, she said, to counter "myriad mudslinging volumes in the Ann Coulter/Michael Moore mold ... that have more to do with misplaced hate than thoughtful contemplation of the issues ahead."
