BISMARCK -- Sen. Kent Conrad says he met with Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan today but will reserve judgment on supporting her until after the confirmation hearings.
The North Dakota Democrat says Kagan's reputation for being smart, fair-minded, and someone who works to find common ground across the political spectrum is well-deserved.
Conrad says he looks forward to learning more about Kagan's judicial philosophy.
President Barack Obama nominated Kagan, the U.S. solicitor general, to succeed retiring Justice John Paul Stevens. Confirmation hearings are scheduled June 28.
