MINOT, N.D. – The state’s congressional delegation and Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman gathered here on Saturday to celebrate how trains matter in the country.
The gathering was one of more than 300 events across the country for the seventh annual National Train Day.
While in Minot, Boardman and the state’s delegation met at the city’s Amtrak station to discuss the importance of trains and meet the public.
During the event, Sen. John Hoeven , R-N.D., said the fastest growing state in the country has more need for the ability to move both products and people.

“As we gather today in Minot to observe National Train Day, it is important to recognize the important role trains play in our state,” he said.
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., said train transportation is “critical” to the state’s economic well-being and to carry its resources to market.
“Amtrak is another important piece to the rail service upon which North Dakota relies,” she said.
“Trains matter greatly to citizens who rely on the Empire Builder, to farmers who need to get their grain to domestic and global markets, and to the developers driving us toward national energy security, just to name a few,” said Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.
