Skaters took to area ice rinks during the start of the Christmas holiday as the weather turned ideal for good ice and comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities.  In addition to skating, runners can be seen on local streets as well as bicyclists. A lack of snow however is keeping sledding hills quiet as well as cross-country ski trails. 

Eric Hylden has been a photographer at the Grand Forks Herald since 1986.

He is a North Dakota State University alumnus and grew up on a dairy farm near Park River, ND.

Hylden started his career as a part-time photographer at the Grand Forks Herald in 1984 and is a former president of the Dakota Press Photographer's Association.
