The near-record cold did not shut down all activity in Grand Forks Wednesday. Two brothers wanted to make sure those who ventured out could get something cold to drink.

"We're just trying to do a good deed for the people of Grand Forks," said John Hoplin, sitting at a makeshift lemonade stand in front of Town Square that he and his brother, Paul, set up about noon. "If they're walking outside right now, it's the least we can do because it's chilly out here."

Temperatures Wednesday were expected to reach a high of 19 below, with windchills of 65 below.

Hoplin, who owns Twin Tandem Studios, said he and his brother took turns manning the stand after they found out local coffee shops were closing early for the weather.
