The North Dakota Clothesline Project and the Take Back the Night Rally, events that bear witness to survivors and victims of violence, will take place Oct. 3-7 in the UND Women's Center and UND Memorial Union.
The 17th annual Clothesline Project, a display of decorated T-shirts that represent stories told by survivors and family members and/or friends of victims of violence, will be displayed at the Women's Center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 3-6 and in the Memorial Union Ballroom from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 7.
The Take Back the Night Rally is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Memorial Union Ballroom. John Clune, an attorney with the Victim Justice Law Firm in Denver who represented the victim in the Kobe Bryant sexual assault prosecution, will be the keynote speaker.
The Clothesline Project helps educate, document and raise society's awareness about the problem of violence in the state of North Dakota, according to a news release from the UND Women's Center. The project's decorated T-shirts will be color-coded to represent the many forms of violence.
Clune, the keynote speaker at the Take Back the Night Rally, has a law practice that represents victims of violent crimes. In 2003, he represented the 19-year-old woman who accused Bryant, a professional basketball player, of sexual assault. Bryant said the sex was consensual. The case was settled out of court and included Bryant publicly apologizing to the woman, although he never admitted guilt.

After Clune speaks, a march will take place to give survivors, friends and family members a voice and a way to bring awareness to interpersonal violence. The march will start from the north side of University Avenue in front of the Memorial Union to Princeton Street and back on the south side of University Avenue, ending back at the Memorial Union.
