The city of Grand Forks is reminding residents that their sump pumps need to drain into street gutters or into their yards, not into the sewage system.
That is, the sump pumps shouldn't be connected to drains inside their houses. Water from the basement doesn't need to be treated at the city's sewage treatment plant the way real sewage needs to be.
