A Grand Forks insurance agent and business leader is seeking a City Council seat this year.
Josh Brown announced his candidacy for Grand Forks' Ward 5 Monday. That seat is being vacated by incumbent Doug Christensen, who won't seek re-election in June.
Brown is an insurance agent at Thompson Schaefer Insurance Agency and is on the Chamber of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks board of directors, according to a press release.
Brown said he wants to help the community "attract and retain businesses to continue to improve local economic development and diversification," and added that the city needs to plan and prioritize expenditures as well as plan for future infrastructure projects.
"I feel we do a good job of planning what we want our community to look like 10, 20, 30 years down the road but we also need to incorporate how we are going to pay for everything we need and want to do," he said in the press release. "We have the resources to do all the things we need to do it is just a matter of sitting down and putting the plan together on how we are actually going to accomplish it."

Brown graduated from Red River High School in 2002 and received a degree in marketing and business administration from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2006. He and his wife have two children.
Former Grand Forks School Board member C.T. Marhula also announced a run for Ward 5 last week.
