Morgan Walsh, a resident of East Grand Forks for six years, has announced his intentions to oppose Mayor Lynn Stauss in the November election.

A married father of two school-age children, the 34-year-old Walsh works as the safety director at Sure Foot Corp. in Grand Forks. A resident of the city's north end, he grew up in Red Lake Falls, Minn.

If elected, he said, he would serve for only one four-year term.

Walsh said he has no complaint about Stauss, who has been mayor since 1995. "My thought process isn't about the current administration; it's more about the future of East Grand Forks," he said.

His ideas include beautification of the gateways to the city, improved communication with neighboring cities and cooperation with local businesses

"We live the American Dream here," he said. "Being mayor would be my way of giving back."
