Centennial of Grand Forks County Courthouse celebration today

The centennial of the Grand Forks County Courthouse will be celebrated today -- 100 years to the day since it was dedicated -- with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The centennial of the Grand Forks County Courthouse will be celebrated today -- 100 years to the day since it was dedicated -- with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

County officials promise cookies, cake and refreshments, plus historic photographs arrayed throughout the courthouse, open for self-guided tours.

District Judge Joel Medd will serve as master of ceremonies for a program starting at 11:30 a.m., outside if weather permits, otherwise inside beneath the rotunda.

Highlights of the program:

• Welcome by Cynthia Pic, chairwoman, Grand Forks County Commission.

• Invocation by the Rev. William Sherman.

• Presentation of the colors by Manvel American Legion Post 299.

• National Anthem by G. Paul Larson and Grand Forks City Band, conducted by Don Langlie.

• Short remarks by Gerald Vandewalle, chief justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court.

• Keynote speech by Kirk Smith, retired Grand Forks district judge.

• Remarks by other invited dignitaries.

• Entertainment by Grand Forks City Band.
