Census survey shows population loss for Fargo, growth for N.D. in 2009

FARGO - North Dakota's estimated population rose slightly in 2009, while Fargo's seems to have declined, according to results from the latest American Community Survey released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Fargo had an estimated population of 95,568 people in 2009 - down nearly 2,300 people, or about 2.3 percent, from 2008, when the previous annual survey was done.

Cass County's estimated population increased by about 2.4 percent over the year, from about 139,900 to about 143,300.

North Dakota had an estimated population of 646,844 last year - up by about 5,300 people, or about 0.8 percent, from 2008.

The data released today by the U.S. Census bureau includes demographic information for communities only with populations of 65,000 or more.

In December and January, the bureau will release survey data covering smaller geographic areas.
