Thanks to the sale of some city land and buildings, the city of Grand Forks has a lot more money next year for various community development projects, such as housing assistance, according to a city report.

The properties, LM Windpower's building and land near J.R. Simplot Co., were purchased after the 1997 flood under the Community Development Block Grant program, and the money has to go back into CDBG funds.

There's an extra $900,000 in the funds because of the sales, which makes up about 51 percent of the total CDBG funds of $1.8 million. Another $346,000 is available in the HOME program, used to make housing more affordable to the poor.

The City Council's finance committee will review funding for the two programs at its meeting at 5:30 tonight in City Hall.
