The Cavalier Air Force Station will be renamed as the Cavalier Space Force Station in a ceremony on July 30.

Each installation at the base will be under Space Force management, but it will still be owned by the U.S. Air Force. The Department of the Air Force oversees both services.

The renaming comes on the heels of news that the station will become part of the U.S. Space Force on the same day. The renaming, “is critical to help in establishing a distinct culture and identity for the United States Space Force,” according to a press release from the public affairs office.

Cavalier’s 10th Space Warning Squadron tracks missiles, satellites and other objects in space.

Space Force Chief of Space Operations Jay Raymond visited the station for the first time on Jan. 10 to scout it for a potential move to the Space Force. He also became the first commander to sign the U.S. Space Command banner hanging in the station.
