BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A Cass Lake man has been arrested for allegedly having sex with an 11-year-old girl multiple times.
Lance Arnold Kingbird, 46, was arrested Saturday after the girl’s mother reported the crime to the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim told staff at the Family Advocacy Center in Bemidji she has been sexually abused by Kingbird multiple times, including five incidents over the past few weeks.
According to court documents, the girl’s mother witnessed one incident where she saw Kingbird on top of her daughter under blankets. The woman said she attempted to contact law enforcement, but Kingbird removed the phone cord.

According to court documents, Kingbird said he had not sexually assaulted the girl and that he saw the girl and her mother engaged in sexual conduct. He told law enforcement he was going to report the incident but did not.
A first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge involving penetration or contact with a person under the age of 13 carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. Kingbird is being held in the Beltrami County Jail on a $75,000 conditional bond. His next court appearance is Monday.
