CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Casey Murphy, a 14-year-old student at Carrington (N.D.) Public School, will represent North Dakota next week in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C.

He'll be among 55 of the nation's top students facing off in preliminary rounds Tuesday, with 10 finalists competing Wednesday for a $25,000 college scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Galapagos Islands with Alex Trebek, host of the "Jeopardy!" quiz show and moderator of the National Geographic Bee.

Murphy, an eighth-grader, told bee organizers that he enjoys snowmobiling, camping, sports and reading. He wants to visit Alaska and would like to join the National Guard when he's older.
