A driver told police her foot slipped from the brake to the gas pedal of her 1999 Buick as she was pulling into a parking space Monday afternoon, causing the front of her car to crash into a Grand Forks butcher shop.

The car smashed the front of Grand City Halal Meat at 1907 S. Washington St., said Del Scholler who manages the strip mall that houses the store. The car went about two feet into the store, destroying plate-glass windows and knocking bricks loose, Scholler said.

The driver, Emerlyne Bucumi, was treated at Altru Hospital and released Monday, a nursing supervisor said. Police cited Bucumi, 29, of Phoenix, for failing to drive with care, the department said in a news release.

Scholler, who was at the store right after the crash, said no one inside was injured. He did not yet have a cost estimate on the damage.

The store, which sells meat prepared under the guidelines of Islam, remains open.
