Car hit 11-year-old riding bicycle to Moorhead school; driver cited

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- A car struck an 11-year-old girl crossing a street Thursday morning as she rode her bicycle to school, Moorhead police said.

The girl was in a crosswalk on 40th Avenue South at the intersection with 11th Street, near Reinertsen Elementary School, when she was hit about 7:30 a.m., police said.

Witnesses told officers the car was headed east on 40th Avenue, going about 20 mph. The crash happened before a crossing guard came on duty, police said.

Paramedics took the girl to a hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life threatening.

The driver, Adam Mousel, 23, of Moorhead, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian and careless driving resulting in an accident, police said.
