Candidate forums set in GF, Crookston

UND's College Republicans and University Democrats will jointly host a debate between the Democratic and Republican tickets for the Legislature in Grand Forks' District 42 at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Memorial Union Loading Dock.

Senate candidates, Republican Nate Martindale and Dem-NPL endorsed candidate Mac Schneider, will join Dem-NPL House candidates Bruce Sanford and Corey Mock and Republican House members Stacy Dahl and Don Dietrich in a six-way discussion of issues affecting UND students and Grand Forks residents.

Public forums

Candidates for the North Dakota House and Senate will discuss issues with the public at a forum sponsored by The Chamber's Government Affairs Committee on Oct. 21 in Council Chambers at Grand Forks City Hall. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit written questions.

House candidates from Districts 18 and 42 lead off at 6:35 p.m. Included are Republicans Mark Owens from District 18, Dahl and Dietrich from District 42, Democrats Eliot Glassheim and Lonny Winrich from District 18 and Mock and Sanford from District 42.

Senate candidates are next at 8 p.m. Republican Andrew Lutz and Democrat Connie Triplett from District 18 will join Martindale and Schneider.

Oct. 23, candidates for County Commission and proponents and opponents of Measure 1 will take part in forums also to be held in City Hall Council Chambers. County Commission candidates Arvin Kvasager, Cindy Pic, John Schmisek and Jerry Vein start at 6:35 p.m. with the Measure 1 sides following at 7:15 p.m.

Rebroadcasts

The forums will be broadcast live on Grand Forks cable Channel 2 and rebroadcast with the following schedule:

- The Oct. 21 forum will be rebroadcast at 10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays starting Oct. 25.

- The Oct. 23 forum will be rebroadcast at 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays starting Oct. 25.

Meet the candidates at UMC

There also will be a "Meet the Candidates Forum" hosted by The Chamber, along with the Crookston Chamber's Legislative Committee, at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 in Kiehle Auditorium on the University of Minnesota-Crookston campus.

School Board candidates will lead off at 7:05 p.m., followed by the City Council candidates at 7:40 p.m., then the County Commission candidates at 8:05 p.m., and ending with the Legislative candidates at 8:40 p.m.
