A semi and trailer caught fire on Interstate 29 one mile north of Grandin, N.D., prompting the closure of I-29's north lane from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. today, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported in a press release.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol closed the northbound lane of Interstate 29 south of Hillsboro, N.D., this morning after a semi experienced a mechanical failure, leading to a fire that burned the trailer it was hauling to the ground.

The highway patrol said the semi was traveling north, 11 miles south of Hillsboro, around 10 a.m. when the fire started. Due to a lack of visibility from the smoke, the patrol diverted northbound traffic on to Traill County Road 9 from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

At that time, the left lane heading north opened, but the right lane remained closed while the remains of the trailer were removed.
