Alice Brekke is UND's new vice president for finance and operations, the university said today.
UND President Robert Kelley picked the current university budget officer out of a field of three finalists his search committee recommended. She was the internal candidate, having graduated from UND and worked in various finance positions there since 1979.
Brekke said she does not expect to begin any policy shifts immediately. Kelley is still building his leadership team and she doesn't want to get too far ahead without the team having defined UND's priorities, she said.
Kelley still has to hire a vice president for research and economic development and the last candidate won't get the final interview for more than a week. The president also plans an early summer retreat for his cabinet, which includes the vice presidents.
Still vacant is the provost and vice president for academic affairs position, which is the No. 2 position at the university.

With Brekke hired, another opening is her old job as budget officer.
Brekke said her top priority now is to finish the fiscal year 2010 budget now that the Legislature has adjourned.
When she has the chance, she said she looks forward to meeting with city and state leaders and strengthen those relationships.
